2022 Echo Red 750ml bottle

Willow Grove vineyard lies at the foothills of Mount Baw Baw.
Ungrafted, unirrigated vines planted twenty one years ago on a mix of rocky brown and red volcanic soil. 

 The name 'Baw Baw' comes from Woiwurrung language spoken by the Eastern Kulin. The meaning isn't certain but it is believed to mean 'Echo'.  And like an Echo, I hope these wines can act as a kind of reverberation of the landscape. 

In 2022 we had a cold wet spring that lead into a mild but dry ripening period. This has given the wines a lot of density and expressiveness but kept them fresh. I also believe as the soil health and vine health is improving, the wines are improving too. 

2022 Echo Red comes from the Pinot Noir/Pinot Gris mutant block. Fruit was hand picked, destemmed and left on skins for three weeks. Pressed into and aged in barrel.
The wine is a light red, with a great balance of bright red fruit and savory, earthy characters. Quite textural, spicy and laced with silky tannin.
